LATE 18th CENTURY FRONTIER HUNTING SHIRT

Lee Teter features this research for artists and others who need visual information. A different artifact will be published each week when possible. These images were photographed by Lee Teter and are provided courtesy of Lee Teter unless otherwise noted.

This hunting shirt dates to the late 18th Century. It is an original artifact made of linen and wool. Very few original hunting shirts remain in existence though they were once common from Canada to Florida and from the Atlantic to the Rocky Mountains. Styles changed with time and geography. This shirt is reported to have been made in the Western Penn./N. W. West Virginia region.
