FORT LIGONIER MOCCASIN
This “moccasin” was unearthed at the site of Fort Ligonier. It is most likely non-Indian from the mid 18th century.
The charred remains of this moccasin may be explained by Lee’s experience: Wet moccasins hanging by the fire to dry are safe until a companion stokes the fire without moving the moccasins away from the reach of flames.
The moccasin at top is a reproduction based as much as possible on the original. The damage to the original was so severe many details are impossible to confirm.
